Job Description
AAYMCA is inviting applications from graduated S2C Ambassadors, Change Agents and YAC participants to participate in the AAYMCA Young Professionals Programme (AYP). The AYP is a paid internship that entails working remotely (online) with the AAYMCA team for 6 months.
Purpose of the Position
The AYP position is a full-time role in which the occupier will work within the Programmes and communications departments to facilitate achievement of the following:
- efficient delivery of projects implemented directly by the AAYMCA as well as with National Movements of the YMCA.
- effective communication and information relay of achievements, successes, challenges and innovation as relates to the empowerment of youth through the delivery of projects;
- Any other duties assigned
Description of the tasks
Specifically, therefore, the following will be expected of the AYP:
- Assist in the development and review of reports developed through the projects
- Attend project meetings and trainings and provide written reports
- Support the creation and coordination of content for social media campaigns and observances
- Attend staff meetings of the AAYMCA – taking notes and reporting on the project milestones
- Support in drafting and organizing social media content to promote AAYMCA’s blogs, videos and media coverage on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram
- source content from AAYMCA and National movement staff.
- attend trainings, workshops, trips, seminars, conferences etc. and provide relevant reports in accordance with the necessary rules and procedures.
- to follow all rules, procedures and policies of the AAYMCA without exception.
The AYP shall receive a stipend based on the Human Resource Policies and procedures of the AAYMCA.
This position is desk-bound and administrative, providing on-the-job training to the successful candidates.
Qualifications:
The candidate we are looking for fits the following criteria:
- Must be a graduated African Change Agent, S2C Ambassador or Young Advocate for Change (YAC) participant from any of the past cohorts of each programme
- Bilingual (French and English) speaker with excellent writing and reading skills in both
- Must be able to commit upwards of 70% of a work week to the AAYMCA. Proof of time spent shall be monitored
- Willing to take up a designated online course work as part of time spent at the AAYMCA
- Flexibility: Accepting varying tasks and workloads. Dealing with multiple tasks and deadlines at the same time.
- Must be dedicated and detail-oriented with an ability to manage multiple tasks
- Initiative: Ability to solve problems and come up with new ideas.
- Independence: Ability to make low-level decisions themselves, and at times work independently for extended periods of time.
- Must be team-player and be willing to learn
