The Global YMCA Movement is taking strides to forge strategic partnerships in youth entrepreneurship, highlighted by its participation in Youth Business International´s 2024 Global Youth Entrepreneurship Summit (GYES) in Nairobi, Kenya, from October 8-10. Themed "Generation for Change: Shaping the Future of Youth Entrepreneurship," the event gathered 195 participants, including inspiring young entrepreneurs and esteemed business leaders.
Keynote speakers included Sara Elder from the International Labour Organization, who emphasized the critical need for investment in young entrepreneurs to tackle contemporary challenges, and Hendrina Chalwe Doroba from the African Development Bank, who highlighted the potential of youth entrepreneurship as a force for good.
Rehana Merali, Meaningful Pillar Lead for the World Alliance of YMCAs participated as a panelist in discussions on sustainable entrepreneurship, sharing the YMCA's Meaningful Work standards. Joining Rehana was Osborne Wanyama of the Africa Alliance of YMCAs. The summit featured interactive sessions, workshops, and networking opportunities focusing on responsible entrepreneurship and innovative business practices.
YMCA was excited to contribute to the Youth Business International and Global Entrepreneurship Network´s newly published Framework Publicly launched on the 10th October 2024 during the summit.
This engagement provided valuable insights into how the YMCA Movement can collaborate with a broader network to enhance learning and address key themes in youth entrepreneurship. As Generation Alpha emerges as a significant force in innovation, experts stress the importance of holistic support systems that foster creativity and align with the Sustainable Development Goals.
