On 4th July, Zambia YMCA celebrated a significant milestone: the graduation of the first cohort of its Mental Health Advocacy Training Program. In a proud and joyous ceremony, a group of young participants stepped forward to receive certificates marking their achievement. This event signifies the beginning of a new wave of youth mental health champions, as these graduates are equipped to help their peers and communities understand, manage, and speak up for mental well-being.
Throughout the training program, participants engaged in interactive sessions, peer support groups and safe spaces for open conversation. These fun yet informative activities helped them build practical skills and confidence to break the stigma surrounding mental health.
By learning about mental wellness, coping strategies and how to support others, the youth advocates are now prepared to promote healing and understanding where it’s needed most in schools and neighborhoods.
Now, as newly minted mental health advocates, the graduates join a growing movement of young leaders championing mental health awareness across Zambia. Armed with knowledge, empathy, and passion, they are ready to encourage open dialogue about mental health in their communities and beyond. This milestone advances YMCA’s Vision 2030 pillar on Community Well-being by empowering youth to foster healthier, more resilient societies. Together, we are building a future where mental health is understood, supported, and prioritized by all. Congratulations to our youth advocates on their achievement!
