Position: Education Project Officer

Location: Nairobi, Kenya (Remote/Hybrid)

Term: One year (renewable based on performance)

Open to: Kenyan and Non-Kenyan nationals

Join us in making a difference in the lives of young people across Africa. We're looking for an Education Project Officer to support our Scholarship Project, providing opportunities for vulnerable youth to access education.

Role Summary:

The scholarship project of the AAYMCA is an initiative that will provide in-country Masters and Bachelors degree scholarship and support for 24 grassroots and 11 Leadership change Agents from Togo, Zambia, Niger, Kenya and Zimbabwe to access higher education within universities in their countries

As the Education Project Officer, you'll play a vital role in implementing our Scholarship Project, offering 36 scholarships across 5 African countries. These scholarships will empower young people with specialized skills, education, and the ability to act as community solutions providers, contributing to the Renaissance of Africa.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategize, implement, and manage education activities in schools and communities.
  • Coordinate the non-formal education program and systems support activities.
  • Facilitate the selection process of scholarship recipients.
  • Manage relationships between scholarship recipients, Africa Alliance of YMCAs, and YMCA National Movements.
  • Conduct training and workshops on Youth Empowerment.
  • Monitor and evaluate student learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate transparently with partners and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Education, Social Work, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in education or social work in an NGO in Africa.
  • Proficiency in English and French.
  • Report writing and budget preparation skills.
  • Understanding of the African context of education.
  • Familiarity with Human Centered approaches to programming (an advantage).
  • Strong IT and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a multicultural environment.
